The aim of the procedure is to remove extra tissue around the woman's vulva. The procedure should be performed immediately after menstruation so that the wounds are completely healed by the next period.
Hygiene and shaving of the surgical area is necessary before the operation.
The actual treatment of the genitals is preceded by a consultation with a plastic surgeon. Fitting, shrinking of the labia minora is an outpatient procedure. The goal of the surgery is to remove excess tissue from the labia minora area. The procedure should be performed shortly after the end of menstruation - the wounds will heal by the next menstruation. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia or, at the patient's request, under short anesthesia. The duration of the procedure is about 45 minutes. The effect of the procedure is permanent. Labia reduction is not common in patients under 18 years of age.
In the early postoperative period, the labia minora are still very swollen for several days until they subside. During this time, the patient may experience pain while sitting. The patient will be instructed on how to care for the wounds and the need for increased hygiene in the genital area. Stitches are removed approximately 14 days after surgery (if absorbable stitches are used, it is not necessary to remove them). Sexual intercourse is possible about 3 or 4 weeks after the procedure.
Postoperative bleeding, postoperative infection, wound healing with thicker scars.
